Oceania Seminary Rectors’ Meeting brings communion

Rectors and formators from the major seminaries of Oceania gathered from June 3 to 7, 2013 at the Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary of Guam in Yona to take part in the Oceania Seminary Rectors’ Meeting 2013.

The meeting brought together representatives from 16 seminaries spread out in Oceania. Specifically, they hailed from Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, and Guam.  The seminary leaders traveled all the way to our island to share a week of communion, deep reflection and faith-rooted dialogue with regards to the important mission of forming priests in a multi-cultural context.

This yearly meeting of seminary rectors, which has been taking place for more than 20 years, is held in one of the different seminaries of the area on a rotational basis.  Last year, during the seminary rectors meeting held in the Pacific Regional Seminary in Suva, Fiji, the Redemptoris Mater Seminary of Guam was selected to host this year’s meeting.

“What we have in common is the Pacific, the ocean. I think it is great that we can share a little bit of the vision and future of the seminaries in the area,” said Fr. Pius Sammut, OCD, itinerant catechist responsible for the Neocatechumental Way for the Pacific. “It is an enriching experience to see what is happening in Fiji, Solomon Islands, Australia, and other areas, to see the rectors come together sharing their ideas and knowledge on how to run the seminary, identify common problems and views, and be in communion with many priests, rectors, and formators who serve the Church and the seminaries.”

Msgr. Anthony Randazzo of Australia is the rector of Holy Spirit Seminary in Brisbane, Australia, a provincial seminary that serves five dioceses in the state of Queensland, currently with 32 students. “In this seminary on Guam there is a wonderful sense of fraternity and a beautiful spirit of hospitality which is really encouraging,” Msgr. Anthony said. “I found that talking to members of the community, the seminarians, the household, has shown a wonderful sense of faith alive. For me, it is a positive experiencewhich is very enthusiastic and very encouraging.”

Fr. Falany Terry from the Pacific Regional Seminary of Fiji said, “I can really appreciate the people and different professors from the Pacific. The sharings and input from the other rectors has been insightful especially because there are many issues coming up that need to be addressed. To see how some of the rectors have been able to address these issues will be very useful for me and I hope to go back to Fiji refreshed not only physically but mentally.”

Fr. Teclemicael Tewolde Neguse CM is one of the formators and professor of Biblical Theology at the Holy Name of Mary Seminary in the Solomon Islands. “It is enlightening to see different challenges from the different countries and seminaries and to see the common concern of formation and the New Evangelization,” Fr. Teclemicael said. “I am very impressed with how this (the Redemptoris Mater Seminary) is a singing community, which I love. English is not our first language in the Solomon Islands but I would like to bring back with me the psalms and melodies which I have heard the seminarians using during prayer here.”

“Meeting with the rectors has a wonderful influence on me each year because it allows me to see other rectors who are also forming wonderful, generous young men who want to live a life of priesthood and mission for the Church,” Msgr. Anthony of Australia said. “It encourages me and the mission that I am doing. There is solidarity among the rectors. Not everyone understands the job a seminary rector, but another seminary rector does, and it is a very good thing.”

During the summit, the seminary rectors had several sessions during which they reflected upon very important topics such as: priestly formation, the New Evangelization, multi-cultural and anthropological issues, and moral as well as faith formation challenges. A select group of distinguished professors guided the series of lectures and discussions.

The seminary rectors concelebrated a special Eucharist with His Excellency Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, OFM Cap., D.D. at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral Basilica for the island community Thursday, June 6.

The Oceania Seminary Rectors’ Meeting 2013 is a historical event for the Church and society in our island as it gathers together the responsibles of the formation of the future priests of Christ and the Church in this part of the world.  In an atmosphere that allowed the seminary rectors to share experiences and build up communion, the meeting offered insights, avenues and new ideas in the mission of forming priests.  All the rectors and formators hope that this meeting may help them to improve and meet the objectives of the New Evangelization.

I rettori e i formatori dai seminari principali di Oceania si sono riuniti dal

3 al 7 giugno 2013 al missionario arcivescovile Seminario Redemptoris Mater di Guam  in Yona per partecipare nella riunione 2013 dell’Oceania dei rettori del seminario.

La riunione ha riunito i rappresentanti da 16 seminari sparsi in Oceania. Specificamente, hanno partecipato dalla Papuasia Nuova Guinea, dalle Isole Salomone, Figi, dall'Australia, dalla Nuova Zelanda e da Guam.  I capi del seminario hanno viaggiato da tutto il modo fino alla nostra isola per vivere una settimana della comunione, la riflessione profonda e fede-hanno piantato il dialogo per quanto riguarda la missione importante di formazione dei sacerdoti in un contesto multiculturale.

Questa riunione annuale dei rettori del seminario, che sta avendo luogo da più di 20 anni, è tenuta in seminari differenti dell'area su una base rotazionale.  L'anno scorso, durante la riunione dei rettori del seminario tenuta nel seminario regionale pacifico a Suva, nelle Figi, il seminario del Redemptoris Mater di Guam è stato indicato per ospitare la riunione di quest'anno.

“Che cosa abbiamo in comune è il Pacifico, l'oceano. Penso che sia grande che possiamo dividere un po'della visione e del futuro dei seminari nell'area,„ ha detto nell’intervento Pius Sammut, , catechista itinerante e responsabile del modo Neocatecumenale per il Pacifico. “È un'esperienza d'arricchimento per vedere che cosa sta accadendo nelle Figi, nelle Isole Salomone, in Australia ed altre aree, per vedere i rettori venire insieme dividendo le loro idee e conoscenza su come dirigere il seminario, identifica i problemi comuni e le viste ed è nella comunione con molti sacerdoti, rettori e formatori che servono la chiesa ed i seminari.„

Msgr. Anthony Randazzo dell'Australia è attualmente il rettore del seminario di Spirito Santo a Brisbane, Australia, un seminario provinciale che serve cinque diocesi nello stato del Queensland, con 32 studenti. “In questo seminario sul Guam c'è un senso meraviglioso della fraternità e dello spirito di ospitalità che è realmente incoraggiante,„ Msgr. Anthony ha detto. “Ho trovato che parlando con membri della comunità, i seminaristi, la famiglia, ha indicato un senso meraviglioso di fede vivo. Per me, è un esperienza molto positiva, è molto entusiasta e molto incoraggiante.„

Nel suo intervento Falany Terry del seminario regionale pacifico delle Figi ha detto, “posso realmente apprezzare la gente ed i professori diversi dal Pacifico. Le parti e l'input dagli altri rettori è stata perspicace particolarmente perché ci sono molte edizioni che vengono su quella necessità di essere indirizzato. Per vedere come alcuni dei rettori hanno potuti affrontare queste edizioni saranno molto utili per me e spero di ritornare a Figi rinfrescate non solo fisicamente ma mentalmente.„

Nell’intervento di Teclemicael Tewolde Neguse che è uno dei formatori e del professore della teologia biblica al nome santo di Mary Seminary delle Isole Salomone. “Sta chiarendo per vedere le sfide diverse dai paesi differenti e seminari e vedere la preoccupazione comune di formazione e di nuova evangelizzazione,„ durante l’intervento Teclemicael ha detto. “Molto sono impressionato come questa (il seminario Redemptoris Mater) è una comunità di canto, che amo. L'inglese non è la nostra prima lingua nelle Isole Salomone ma vorrei riportare con me i salmi e le melodie che ho sentito i seminaristi che usando durante la preghiera qui.„

“Incontrare i rettori ha ogni anno un'influenza meravigliosa me perché permette che me vedi altri rettori che inoltre stanno formando i giovani meravigliosi e generosi che vogliono vivere una durata di sacerdozio e della missione per la chiesa,„ Msgr. Anthony dell'Australia ha detto. “Incoraggia me e la missione che sto facendo. C'è la solidarietà fra i rettori. Non ognuno capisce il lavoro un rettore del seminario, ma un altro rettore del seminario fa ed è una cosa molto buona.„

Durante la sommità, i rettori del seminario hanno avuti parecchie sessioni durante cui hanno riflesso sopra gli argomenti molto importanti come: formazione sacerdotale, la nuova evangelizzazione, edizioni multiculturali ed antropologiche e sfide di formazione di fede come pure di morale. Un gruppo ristretto di professori distinti ha guidato la serie di conferenze e di discussioni

I rettori del seminario hanno concelebrato un'eucaristia speciale con la sua Eccellenza Arcivescovo Anthony Sablan Apuron, cappuccio di OFM., D.D. al Dulce Nombre il de Maria Cathedral Basilica per isola comunità giovedì 6 giugno.

La riunione 2013 di Oceania dei rettori del seminario è un evento storico per la chiesa e la società nella nostra isola poiché riunisce insieme i responsabili della formazione dei sacerdoti futuri di Cristo e della chiesa in questa parte del mondo.  In un'atmosfera che ha permesso che i rettori del seminario condividessero le esperienze e sviluppassero la comunione, la riunione ha offerto le comprensioni, i viali e le nuove idee nella missione di formazione dei sacerdoti.  Tutti i rettori e formatori sperano che questa riunione possa aiutarle per migliorare e rispondere gli obiettivi di nuova evangelizzazione.
